Episode 20: Good governance in practice: Creating a 'speak up' culture
ROCpod was the monthly podcast of the Registered Organisations Commission, now abolished. The obligations for registered organisations remain unchanged. If you need further information please contact the new regulator - the Fair Work Commission - on 1300 341 665 or email regorgs@fwc.gov.au
In our latest episode of ROCpod we discuss how leaders of registered organisations can model ethical behaviour and encourage people to speak up against misconduct. The ROC’s Executive Director Chris Enright shares his experience of handling whistleblower matters and provides strategies and examples to assist organisations to effectively resolve matters themselves.
Why create a ‘speak up’ culture?
Creating an environment of trust and safety is crucial to developing a ‘speak up’ culture in workplaces and organisations. Registered organisations have much to benefit when their officers, employees and members feel respected and confident to speak up about issues that concern them. A ‘speak up’ culture can have a positive influence on morale and help organisations to prevent minor issues becoming bigger problems.
